So while I was reviewing Chris Tomlin's latest album, (yes, will be done this weekend Lord willing. :-D ) thought I'd go over this one too...."Words" by Hawk Nelson, off the yet to be released album "Made".
The song "Words" is a powerful song about how much affect our words can have. [Lyrics from Pre-Chorus:
"Words can build you up/Words can break you down/Start a fire in your
heart or put it out."] The single is the first song without former lead singer Jason Dunn, who left the band after the release of their last album, "Crazy Love" to pursue his solo project. So a lot of people have had to wonder what the "new" Hawk Nelson would sound like. So anyway, after the introduction of sort, they jump into the point of the song (Lyrics from chorus); "Let my words be life/Let my words be truth/I don't wanna say a word/Unless it points the world back to You." Then, they jump back into the second verse, pointing their song to God, ["God, Your voice is the only thing we need to hear."] with Bart Millard of MercyMe singing, continuing in the powerful feel of the song. The ending of the song is the moment we take our action, and ask God to use us to speak his words. ["I wanna speak Your love/Not just another noise/Oh, I wanna be Your light/I wanna be Your voice"]
So, overall, great song, great message, great singer, great all around. For someone who was never a huge Hawk Nelson fan to begin with this song has made my day. However, this song leaves us with a lot of un-answered questions. Will this worship style be the permanent new style of Hawk Nelson? Or will they come back on the new album with the pun/rock/pop we're used to hearing from them? These questions are yet to be answered for the next two and a half months. However, until then, we're left with this fantastic song to listen to and meditate on. Overall, I give this song a 5 out of 5 stars for great Christian music.
God bless!
